Mini Mitter offers a full line of Nalgene domicile cages, running wheels and metabolic cages. These laboratory animal cages are precisely machined from the highest grades of polycarbonate and stainless steel to insure long lasting performance. They are the cages of choice for use with the VitalView Data Acquisition system and are valuable tools for monitoring behavioral parameters in many types of research applications.
Product Line
Running Wheels
Nalgene animal caging provides running wheels that are high quality and durable. They will resist discoloration and maintain their smooth rotation for years of use. They may be autoclaved.
Running wheel turns may be monitored manually using a combination of a Mini Mitter Magnetic Switch and a digital switch counter or automatically using the magnetic switch and the VitalView Data Acquisition System.
Rat and mouse size wheels are available. The wheel forms a portion of the lid of the cage, the other portion is formed by a food hopper and water bottle holder. Either size wheel may be configured as the lid for a standard domicile cage or as the lid of a cage with a cut-away bottom which allows for easier cleaning.
Metabolic Cages
Nalgene metabolic cages are designed to allow for effortless separation of the urine and feces of rats, mice, or even rabbits. In addition, the specially designed feeding and drinking water bottle assemblies allow for the quantification of food and water that has been consumed for complete energy balance experiments. Air tight Metabowl cages are also available for indirect calorimetric studies as well.
Five sizes of metabolic cages are available:

- 0 - 150g - Rat
- 150 - 300g - Rat
- 300 - 850g - Rat
- Up to 3kg - Rabbit
Metabolic cage stands are sold separately. Twelve cage rack systems are also available.
Custom Cages for Monitoring Food and Water Intake
Mini Mitter offers customized Nalgene Domicile cages for use with VitalView Feeding Monitors and Lick Sensors. These polycarbonate cages are modified to allow for the Nalgene feeding and water bottle assemblies to be mounted to the outside. Since they do not have the separatory funnel of the Metabolic Cages, they also allow for telemetric monitoring with VitalView. These cages are made to order and are available in three sizes.
